   George Washington     singer / songwriter

Born Phillip George Washington on March 8 1959 to the late Peter Washington Sr. and the late Mary Washington in Carneys Point / Penns Grove New Jersey.  George is the seventeenth out of eighteen children born from this union.  George began singing at the age of around seven with his brothers Freddy, Gary and David. The Washington Brothers would perform together for many church events throughout the mid to late nineteen sixties. The Washington Brothers were the opening act for the legendary quartet The Harmonizing Four when they would perform in New Jersey annually in the late nineteen sixties.  George would become one of the lead singers of the Washington Family Singers in his childhood and teenage years. The family group would perform up and down the east coast of the U.S. for many years. In addiction to performing with his family group, George would perform with his high school (Penns Grove, N.J.)  chorus and gospel choir.  In 1986 George would record his first lead on a song entitled "Sinner Man" which was featured on his brother Freddy Washington Sr and the Music Ministry Workshop album  Living Water. George would continue to record and perform with the Music Ministry Workshop Choir for many years. George would begin writing and recording his own music in 1989, and would produce his own independent cassettes and CDs. After hearing one of  the CDs that George produced a New Jersey based talent agency booked George to be a part of the ensemble of singers to perform for the first Marian Anderson Awards gala in Philadelphia, Pa.  in 1998.  This award ceremony and concert would honor legendary icon Harry Belafonte and would feature singer Harry Connick Jr.     George would continue to write and record original music through the 2000s.   George would perform with brother Freddy Washington Sr.  and an ensemble of singers, choirs and musicians  in the month of December for several years in Switzerland and Germany from 2001 -2005.    This collection of original music was created from  the influence of music artist/ producers, such as Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind &Fire, Andrae Crouch, Edwin/Walter Hawkins, The Winans and Quincy Jones.
